What is a skin lesion?

A skin lesion is a broad term and defined as an area of abnormal tissue that has different characteristics from the surrounding skin, including colour, size, shape and texture. They are usually caused by sun damage of trauma. This term includes, epidermoid and pilar cysts, lipomas, warts, moles (intradermal and compound nevi), seborrheic keratoses, keratin horns, skin tags, fibromas, cherry angiomas, xanthelasma and many more. (some may require GP diagnosis and referral)

How do we do it?

Cryotherapy removal

Cryotherapy is the use of extreme cold to freeze and remove lesions. This is a quick and easy procedure and can target the area precisely with minimal scarring.

Cautery removal

Cauterization used a heated blade to burn the lesion and particularly good for patient on blood thinning medication. It can leave a crust but this will heal in a short time leaving minimal scaring.

Shave removal

Lesions that protrude from the skin can be shaved off under local anesthetic. This is done with a scalpel or a curette, it can leave a pink area where the lesion was but will fade quite quickly.

Excision removal

Some lesions may need cut away via an excision. This procedure is performed under local anesthetic and will require some stitching for closure. A small scar will be left but with appropriate after care, this will also fade during time.

Punch biopsy

This a procedure where only a sample of the lesion is removed under local anesthetic to send for histology reporting

What are therapeutic injection?

Injections into joints

This where some steroid and local anesthetic is injected into specific joints. This helps with pain and inflammation to joints such as tennis/golf elbow.

Aspiration of joints

This is where fluid is drained from a joint (bursitis) such as the elbow or knee, with the use of a needle and syringe. A steroid may be injected to prevent recurrence

Why offer this service?

As you may know, The NHS and general practice have made a number of cuts to non-life threatening services they offer and waiting times post pandemic are quite lengthy. Most minor surgery has now been classed as cosmetic and therefore no longer available on the NHS. I believe that many lesions, classed as “cosmetic” can be very troubling, affecting people’s confidence and self-esteem. These lesions may not be affecting peoples physical health but can affect their mental health. Surgical Skin Solutions Ltd aim to offer a personalized treatment plan for removal of these “troublesome” lesions to a high standard at reasonable prices.

How it works!

Please contact for an initial consultation. This can be done on-line through social media and our web site on our Contact Us page. You can phone, text and email to make a face-to-face consultation. Everyone will have a face-to-face consultation prior to surgery and all being well, surgery will be performed that day. Follow up appointments, if required, will be given then. You will have direct contact throughout your surgical journey
